All hail the King

Welcome to the Big Show..

Who is the MVP of the NBA this year? Is it D- Wade ??? Kobe ?? the King?? A strong case could be made for all 3 of them ( and a few more guys) .. If I had a vote it would depend on how you define the MVP .. To me there are two ways to define an MVP ..

First, the MVP is the best player in the league.. The guy who is the most talented, most exciting and most dominant player...The guy who is averaging 34 points for the season.. He may not be the greatest team mate and his team may be 30-52 but he is simply the man .. You know that watching his teams game that he will put on a show for you.. There have been so many of these guys over the years.. From 2004- 2007 Kobe Bryant was the epitome of this.. He was clearly the best in the game and the stats he would put up were insane..( 81 points.. Yeh I was there for that) Yet his team never made it out of the first round and you could clearly see that he was hated by his teammates. How many MVP's did Kobe win during that time??? That's right.. Zero.. Imagine.. if they do not get Pau Gasol last year the Lakers win like 50 games or so and do not finish with the best record in the West...Kobe would not have won the MVP and he may have been the greatest player of all time not to win one.. Another example of this is Allen Iverson .. He was the league leader in scoring a few times between 2000 -2004 and arguably the most entertaining player in the game... He did win one MVP.. However, that was the year his team achieved great success ( Yes.. I still think that is funny because of Borat) by making to the NBA Finals in perhaps the worst Eatern Conference of all time...

These rules are not the same in Baseball .. If a guy hits 60 homers (Spinach) and drives in 130 runs he can win the MVP even if his team finishes in last.. In 2003 Alex Rodriguez wins the AL MVP..( Yes I enjoy picking on A- Rod..sue me) He has a great individual season .. The Texas Rangers however finished the season a whopping 71-91.. 4th place in the AL West.. 4th .. Yet he was still the MVP.. It is just a different game... If an individual hits 2 home runs in a game ...that directly translates to his teams success. If an NBA Player takes 27 shots and score 40 points that does not necessarily directly translate .. There are so many more variables in Basketball then baseball...

It seems clear that the writers who vote for the MVP in the NBA ( BTW..Job I would love to have) do not vote for a guy unless his individual success directly translates to his teams overall success...

Now the second definition...The guy who may not be averaging 35 points a game but is clearly and without question the most identifiable factor in his teams success... He may not be a fantasy guy but his team wins.. The guy who gets you 20 and ten but his team seems to be in the finals every year, and he has four rings... Yes I am talking about Tim Duncan ..( Who by the way may be the greatest power forward of all time ?? I am just saying) He also has 2 MVP trophies. Another example is Steve Nash. He transformed the Phoenix Suns from a Stephon Marbury led circus into a NBA power house. He also has 2 MVP's . So it seems clear that the winner of the MVP trophy should be the guy who most directly effects his teams success and there chance to win ...

OK but who is it?? Lebron , Kobe or D Wade...I am glad you asked...

Let's eliminate Kobe from the picture. Aside from the fact that I don't like him to start there are other , albeit less important, reasons why he is not the MVP. Although his team is in the tougher Western Conference , I feel that this season he has a less direct effect on the team's success. That team goes ten deep with a bench that could beat the Knick's starters. ( I love taking shots at the Knicks.) Frankly I don't think he deserved it last year either. The media just got this idea that he had become this loving wonderful teammate all of a sudden. Isn't that hilarious?? The other top players in the league are great teammates all the time but don't get any credit. Kobe acts like a jerk to his team ..Plays selfishly for like ten years and then when he supposedly starts to act nice he gets the MVP. Its BS.. I wish that when David Stern was giving him the trophy Lebron would have interrupted the ceremony like they do in wrestling( Perhaps a chair) and challenged him to a steel cage match ..

OK What about D - Wade? .. Now you could make the argument that without D Wade the Heat would be like 15-67 this year.I understand that.. There have been certain times during the season that he looks as unstoppable as anyone who has ever played.. But before you go giving him the trophy remember that his team is only 39-35. In the East. Is that MVP worthy? The Heat will most likely lose in the first round of the playoffs. I can not give the MVP trophy to any one who's teams is a 500 team..

OK so that leaves us with the King Lebron.. Let's review the two criteria that potentially effect an MVP voters opinion .. First , is he the most exciting , dominant and overall best player in the league?? I think for the first time in his career you can answer that question without a shadow of doubt. YES... If you need more proof here is some...( He is as hot as a blow torch)

Ok What about the second criteria?? Is he directly responsible for his teams success and ultimate championship potenital..Well his team is going to win 65 games this year... They are the slight favorite to win the NBA championship.( Go Celts) . Now skeptics ( Daniel) will tell me that they have Mo Williams.. Tell me how many All Star Games was Mo Williams in before this season?? That is right... Zero... He has become a great player because he plays with the greatest player.. That team would be maybe 35-47 without Lebron and now they can win the Title..

So its clear .... Congratulations Lebron you have my vote..( If I had one)

We are all followers

  1. They should just give the award to Lebron for the next ten years. He is that good and his team is that bad without him.

  7. It's gonna be Lebron in a landslide.

By either definition of MVP, Lebron will take it. But how is it clear to you that MVP is defined as most valuable to his team? MVP is the best player in the league. No need to complicate matters. It's the best player. By any standard, it's gotta be Lebron.

  8. "i hate him i hate him i hate!!!!! cant believe any1 listens to that"

What a loser you are Romolicious. You sound less intelligent than Russel Mathis (and the fact that u r both cowboy fans doesn't help your case). That was hysterical what Steve did and he was yanking your chain like it was 1969.

    Lol on you.

Moving to more important people and things, Lebron is the greatest player in the NBA right now and for the next 9 years it will stay that way. I'd rather the ball in Kobe's hands in the last minute but that is not what defines MVP. Stanley, couldn't agree with you more.

    Give it to LJ.

  9. mvp has nothing to do with how far a team gets in the playoffs, it is a regular season award, and should stay that way. That said mvp stands for most valuable player, which means the player, who is most valuable to their team is the mvp, and it doesnt matter what that team's record is. Therefore, although lebron may be the best player in the league, is he the most valuable to his team? Take lebron of the cavs and wade of the heat and which team's record will suffer more??? I personally think the heat's record would suffer more, and therefore, D-wade should be the mvp...but of course the league and the rest of the world kisses up to lebron so if i had to put money down, i'd say lebron is gonna win.

  10. Where is this "most valuable to his team" stuff coming from?

Do we look at other awards as "to his team"? Most improved player to his team? Best defensive player to his team?

MVP goes to the best player in the league.

  11. Daniel the History of the NBA does not support your argument. If the MVP was given to the best player then Kobe would have five MVP's . Shaq would have five.

That is not the way the voters decide.
